Scam and Fraud Prevention

Scammers are constantly finding new ways to victimize and target homeowners. At CrossCountry Mortgage powered by RoundPoint, your financial security is our top priority, and being informed is the first line of defense. Here are some tips that can help protect you and your financial information:

1. Verify Communications

CrossCountry Mortgage powered by RoundPoint will never ask for personal information in an automated call. If we call you, we will clearly identify ourselves. Be cautious of unsolicited emails, calls, or messages requesting personal or financial information. You should confirm the legitimacy of any suspicious communication by checking your You Are Home™ account and sending a secure message to our team.

Scammers often use methods to disguise the origin of their communications, such as:

  • Call spoofing (where the call appears to come from a trusted number)
  • Phishing from a similar or copied email domain
  • Fraudulent internet listings to trick customers into calling the wrong number

2. Confirm Transfer Instructions and Secure Your Information

The You Are Home™ online portal is the secure way to communicate sensitive financial information and manage your account. Always use official, secure channels when sharing financial details. Avoid sending information such as bank account numbers or Social Security details through unsecured means like email or text messages.

3. Stay Informed

Knowledge is your best defense. Stay informed about the latest mortgage fraud trends and common scams. Regularly check official sources, such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), for updates and alerts. Freddie Mac also has an excellent resource to identify so-called “red flags” that could be indicative of scams.

4. Report Suspicious Activity Promptly

If you encounter any suspicious activity or believe you may have been targeted by fraud, report it immediately to us and relevant authorities. Timely reporting can help prevent further damage.

If you feel as though you may have been contacted by a scammer or fallen victim to a mortgage scam, the best thing you can do is to log into your account or contact our Customer Care Team immediately at 800-224-7984.
